We're shocked and so will you be. We would never have guessed the world's top restaurant would be found here in a million years. Geranium in Copenhagen is located in a football ground and has just been ranked the World’s Best Restaurant.
The annual awards ceremony held in London bagged the prestigious title and beat their Danish rival and five-time winner Noma to the prolific eating spot.
Located on the eighth floor of Parken Stadium where you can also find Copenhagen FC, chef Rasmus Kofoed flies the cooking flag for the eatery which looks out over picturesque Fælledparken park.
Kofoed said about the venue, which opened in 2010 during a financial crisis: "All odds were against us."
It has become the first eatery in Denmark to rack up three Michelin stars and charges a purse-busting 3,200DKK (£367) for a tasting menu per person.
This year’s top 10 include:
- Geranium, Copenhagen
- Central, Lima
- Disfrutar, Barcelona
- Diverxo, Madrid
- Pujol, Mexico City
- Asador Etxebarri, Atxondo
- A Casa do Porco, Sao Paulo
- Lido 84, Gardone Riviera
- Quintonil, Mexico City
- La Calandre, Rubano
William Drew, director of content for World’s 50 Best Restaurants said: "The gastronomic landscape has changed significantly since the last full year of voting.
"Shifting culinary tastes and geographical areas becoming more important may have played a part."
Anyone for a trip to Copenhagen?
