Congratulations to the buzzing city of Edinburgh, which has bagged the title of this year's best city in the world. With a plethora of historical buildings, museums, cultural hot spots, the Fringe festival and nightlife, people have voted it top of the 2022 Time Out Index.
Beating competition from Medellín in Colombia and Chicago in the US, 93% praised the city for its walkability, its beauty (95%) and for not being boring (96%) or rude (91%).
Another winning factor was that the city isn't stressful (89%) compared to 17th on the list, London (52%), while 88% of people applauded that it's 'easy to express who you are' in the city.
Glasgow came in fourth place, with 78% of Glaswegians describing their city as friendly, while others praised its green space and choice of things to do.
Time Out said: "Our top cities this year are the ones with thriving nightlife, amazing food and drink, and art, culture and museums galore.
"We’ve highlighted places that aren’t boring or overly expensive or overrated, and we’ve ensured that our top picks also score well for practical stuff like walkability, good public transport and safety, as well as sustainability."
Scotland's First Minister and leader of the Scottish National Party, Nicola Sturgeon, wrote on Twitter: "The results of the Time Out Index of the 53 Best Cities in the World to visit in 2022 are in: Number 1 - EDINBURGH... Number 4 - GLASGOW... What a brilliant endorsement of two great cities."
