As the music kicks off at Glastonbury, a question mark still hangs over whether Arctic Monkeys will headline the Pyramid Stage tonight, after frontman Alex Turner was struck down with laryngitis.
The Sheffield band cancelled their Dublin gig on 20th June due to the vocalist's acute case of laryngitis, causing speculation about whether they would be able to fulfil their much-anticipated headline slot tonight (23rd June).
On Wednesday, Glasto co-organiser Emily Eavis spoke to press about the chances of Arctic Monkeys being fit to play. “I’m sure we’re going to be alright,” she said.
“We’ve got a couple of back-up plans if not. We’ve always got back-up plans for everything.”
Now, Turner’s girlfriend, Louise Verneuil, has further raised fans’ hopes of the band playing tonight, by posting a photo of herself in a car, with the caption “Go Glasto”, suggesting that she is on her way to the festival.

Regarding what would happen if the band weren’t able to make it, Eavis said they had “a couple of back-up plans”.
Rumours are rife that Foo Fighters are set to make a surprise appearance at the festival at 6.15pm today as mystery band The Churnups, with fans speculating that, if that rumours turn out to be true, they could step in for Arctic Monkeys should they be unable to play.
However, fans have been given further hope that Alex Turner’s voice will have recovered by tonight, as the band’s trucks have reportedly arrived at Worthy Farm.
Assuming they make it, it will be the third time that Arctic Monkeys will headline the festival, having previously topped the bill in 2007 and 2013.
