Britpop legends Pulp will help ring in the new year at Edinburgh’s world-famous Hogmanay concert.
The New Year festival will take place on Sunday 31st December, with the band, fronted by Jarvis Cocker, performing against the backdrop of Edinburgh castle as 2024 rolls in.
The headlining performance will help cap off a brilliant 2023 for Pulp, who reunited for first time in 10 years for a string of summer shows at Finsbury Park, TRNSMT and Latitude Festival, as well as two home-coming shows at Sheffield Arena.
Edinburgh's Hogmanay will mark Pulp’s first show in the Scottish capital for over 20 years, and will not only be their final show of 2023, but also their first of 2024.
Speaking in a statement announcing the news, frontman Jarvis Cocker said: "When your grandkids ask 'Do you remember the first time Pulp played Edinburgh’s Hogmanay?' What will your answer be? Come along & start 2024 in the very best way possible. Oh yes."
NYE revellers enjoying the accompanying Edinburgh's Hogmanay Street Party taking place in the city centre won’t miss out on the Pulp festivities, with their celebratory gig being screened across ‘The Pop Zone’ in Princes Street.
Edinburgh's Hogmanay bosses at Unique Assembly added: “Reaching the milestone 30th anniversary for Edinburgh’s Hogmanay is a phenomenal achievement, which since 1993 has welcomed millions of party people to celebrate at the Home of Hogmanay.
“We wanted to make sure that this year was extra special for our audiences and are thrilled to welcome Pulp to the party. This will be the hottest ticket in town, and we recommend people grab their tickets fast to make sure they don’t miss out”.
Pulp will no doubt bring out their biggest hits for Concert in the Gardens, with massive Britpop anthems including Common People, Disco 2000, and Do You Remember the First Time? in their back catalogue.
The Sheffield natives first formed in 1978 and found huge success in the mid-1990s with the release of their breakthrough album His ‘n’ Hers in 1994. They continued until 2001 when they announced their decade-long break. They reunited for the first time in 2011 and then went on hiatus once again in 2013 before their latest comeback in summer 2023.
Frontman Cocker recently turned 60, and to celebrate, virginradio.co.uk put together a list of all of his most iconic moments, including his very last-minute Glastonbury headline appearance, THAT Michael Jackson incident and his starring role in Harry Potter.
Concert in the Gardens with Pulp and special guests to be announced, takes place on Sunday 31st December 2023 in West Princes Street Gardens, from 9pm to 12.50am. Tickets go on general release Friday 29 September at 10am from www.edinburghshogmanay.com
