‘Tis almost the season - but this year it appears the Christmas spirit has arrived earlier than ever for some in the UK.

Regular Christmas chart-topping hits ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ by Mariah Carey and ‘Last Christmas’ by Wham! have made it into the UK’s top 40 earlier this year than the last.

So good news for fans of getting into the Christmas spirit early in November, but bad news for anyone playing Whamageddon this year!

‘Last Christmas’ is in the charts at number 37 at the moment, while ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ is just behind it in the 40th spot.

But these placements in the charts after less than two weeks of November differ quite a bit from last year, when the tracks only made it into the charts at the end of November’s third week.

Currently, no other Christmas songs are in the Top 100, and it was The Beatles’ new and final track ‘Now and Then’ which raced to top spot.

For some, Christmas is definitely not on the mind just yet, as Taylor Swift’s Cruel Summer remains in seventh space on the chart.

It remains to be seen if more festive chart focused hits such as Sam Ryder’s new festive song ‘You’re Christmas To Me’ and Lorraine’s Change + Check Choir’s charity single ‘Golden’ will be able to break into top spots later this year.

Other contenders may be songs featured in some of this year’s festive TV adverts, such as Andrea Bocelli’s ‘Festa’ from John Lewis’ endearing advert about a boy and his very special (if quite snappy) Christmas tree.
