It’s been a full four decades since Bon Jovi released their first album, and a deluxe release is marking the milestone.
Yes, in news that will make you feel very old, the New Jersey band’s self-titled debut record was first issued on 24th January, 1984. The record, which featured classics such as She Don’t Know Me and Runaway, went double-platinum.
To celebrate the album’s 40th anniversary, the digital release of Bon Jovi Deluxe Edition lands on streaming platforms today.
And if you fancy a physical release, then you’re in luck, because the Grammy Award-winning band has announced that an exclusive limited-edition ruby coloured vinyl LP will come out on 24th March, and there will also be a limited-edition cassette on 5th April.
The new release consists of the remastered original album, along with nine bonus tracks, including unreleased studio recordings and four rare live cuts.
The release has been co-produced by Jon Bon Jovi and longtime sound engineer Obie O’Brien, who also mixed the bonus material. This expanded version shows the evolution of Runaway, from the original cassette writing demo, via the band’s early run-through and a full alternate take, to an extended version with a second guitar lead. It also features an early version of Come Back in which the frontman sings his idea for a guitar solo.
The live tracks were taken from the band’s 1985 shows in Tokyo.
News of the release comes a day after it was revealed that the band are set to be the subject of a new documentary series.
Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story, will feature all past and present members of Bon Jovi from their many years of making music, and will include four decades of personal footage, unheard demos, lyrics and previously unseen photos.
The series lands on Hulu in the United States on 26th April, and will then be available to stream on Disney+ across the rest of the world later in the year.
