Scottish rockers Biffy Clyro certainly don’t hang about! They may have only released their last album in August but, excitingly, the hard-working band have already finished their next record.
Hot on the heels of their critically-acclaimed eighth album, A Celebration Of Endings, the band have said that they’ve just put the finishing touches on a new LP, which will likely be out in October.
Talking to NME on the red carpet before the BRIT Awards this week, frontman Simon Neil confirmed that the album was now done. Originally, the idea was to create a sister record to their current album, but Neil said that the plan changed slightly over lockdown. “Originally it was going to be completely hand-in-hand. They do relate, but because we didn’t tour, I ended up writing about seven or eight new songs for the album. Originally it was intended to be a few off-cuts from A Celebration Of Endings, but now it’s got wonderful new art and it’s kind of its own beast.”
He added, “The lyrics correspond at certain points and there are a lot of Easter eggs for fans in there, but it’s a proper record. It’s not like we headed in, rushed it and banged out a few songs.”
Going further into the new album’s lyrical content, he said, “It’s about that reflection of how you can experience the same thing but react in a completely different way. We’ve all had this huge global experience, but we’ve not had the same experience for many, many reasons, and I feel that’s what the record is about. It’s about the aftermath of coming through something together, but also not being able to comprehend what someone else is going through. We’re all trying to make the best of that.”
The band had previously said that the upcoming record would be titled A Commemoration Of Commiserations, but they have since been giving clues to a different name on social media, with the mysterious initials RMV.
Biffy Clyro will be touring the UK in October, when fans will get to hear some songs from the new album live, along with all the hits, of course.
29 October Liverpool University 20 October Cambridge Corn Exchange 31 October Sheffield O2 Academy 2 November London, O2 Forum Kentish Town 3 November Southampton, O2 Guildhall 4 November Bristol, O2 Academy
The band's massive homecoming show at Bellahouston Park on 25th June will now take place at Glasgow Green on 9th September 2021.
