Music fans in Scotland can rejoice, because TRNSMT Festival has been given the green light, meaning that 50,000 attendees will be able to bask in live sets from the likes of Liam Gallagher, The Courteeners, Ian Brown, and The Chemical Brothers.

Originally scheduled for July, the festival will now take place from September 10-12 at Glasgow Green. It will be the first TRNSMT since 2019, after the 2020 event was cancelled last April, a month after the first Covid lockdown started.

After First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said yesterday (August 3rd) that a number of the remaining Covid-19 restrictions will be lifted in Scotland from August 9th, TRNSMT’s organiser Geoff Ellis confirmed the good news on the BBC’s Good Morning Scotland programme.

He said, “I’m delighted to confirm we've got the permission to go ahead with TRNSMT, which is amazing. It'll be so emotional. It'll be two years since the last TRNSMT so people will be raring to go.

“We're so excited, we can't wait to welcome 50,000 people at Glasgow Green, non-socially distanced and with a great line-up.”

The Chemical Brothers will replace Lewis Capaldi, who is unable to make the new dates.

Mr Ellis went on to say he thought it was “logical” to assume that fans would be required to take a lateral flow test before being allowed to attend the festival, but he also said that he does not think that the Scottish government will insist on vaccination for events, because “I don’t think they believe in that.”

The TRNSMT organiser has, however, suggested the possibility of having a “vaccination bus” at the festival. He said, “I think [the Scottish government] want to encourage as many people as possible to get vaccinated and I would say the same. I've even suggested to the Scottish government if they want to put a vaccination bus into TRNSMT, we’d be happy to host that, it's on the table.”

TRNSMT headliner Ian Brown recently stepped down from a festival appearance at Neighbourhood Weekender, also in September. He said on Twitter, “My Saturday night headline show at NHBD Weekender Festival will now not happen! I refuse to accept vaccination proof as condition of entry.” Neighbourhood Weekender had not stated that vaccination would be a requirement of entry.
