Ahead of the arrival of his second record, Seventeen Going Under, Sam Fender has revealed that he will embark on a run of gigs.
The singer-songwriter’s new LP will land next Friday, October 8th, and he took to Twitter yesterday (30th September), to let his ever-growing army of fans know that he will be hitting the road before Christmas. Tickets are on sale now.
Sam said: “Playing some very intimate UK shows to celebrate the release of my new album ‘Seventeen Going Under’!”
The tour will begin at Pryzm in Kingston on December 1st and will end at Fat Sams in Dundee on December 16th. The artist will visit Bournemouth, Leeds, Bristol, Southampton and Sheffield on the way.
This intimate run of gigs starts at the conclusion of Sam’s larger UK and European tour, which ends in next month, His arena dates will take in Newcastle, Leeds, Cardiff and London, where he will play two big nights at Alexandra in November.
Of his upcoming album, Sam told NME earlier this year: “I’m more proud of this than anything I’ve ever done. It’s probably the best thing I’ve done in my life.”
Meanwhile, the North Shields singer has revealed that acclaimed actor Stephen Graham will play his dad in the video for his new single, Spit of You.
Sam told fans on Instagram: "Stephen Graham's in it and he's playing the dad and I'm playing the son… would you believe us? Because it's happening and it's coming soon."
Explaining what Spit of You is about on Instagram, the musician said: “It’s based around my own relationship with my old man, and how we both struggle as blokes to communicate the way we feel to each other without it becoming a stand off. It’s about how the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, as I get further into my twenties I see so much of myself in him, especially when it comes to being stubborn.”
Sam added: “The second half of the song talks about seeing him with my grandma when she passed away, and how I saw him as a son, and how that moment reminded me to make the most of my time with him. If anything, it is a declaration of love for him.”
