She’s had an incredible life and career so far, and now Dolly Parton wants to put it all on the big screen.

The iconic artist has aimed to tell her story for a while and, with decades of massive hits at her disposal, the original plan was to put together a Broadway musical. However, she’s had a change of heart since the pandemic.

“We were talking about doing my Broadway musical and we were really, really far out ahead of that, and then Covid hit and that changed my mind about a whole lot of things," she said during an interview on Mr. Nashville Talks.

She added: “I do intend someday to be on Broadway, but I'm thinking now that I might do my life story as a feature. Maybe possibly even a musical feature, so we're in talks about that.”

When it comes to who could end up playing the star, either onstage or onscreen, Dolly has suggested that multiple people of different ages should portray her through the years. “We'd probably have to have — as long as my career has been — like a little Dolly and a middle Dolly and then the older one,” she said.

The singer, whose hits include 9 to 5 and Jolene, has admitted that she admires American actress and singer Kristin Chenoweth, describing her as “absolutely fantastic.”

Whilst it might be a while before we get to see a Dolly Parton biopic, we will be able to catch her in a film soon, as she is set to appear in an adaptation of Run, Rose, Run, the novel she co-wrote with James Patterson. The movie will be made in conjunction with Hollywood star Reese Witherspooon and her company Hello Sunshine.

And of course, Dolly is no stranger to the movies, having previously been in the classic 1980 comedy 9 to 5, as well as other notable hits, such as Steel Magnolias.

As recently as this month, the musician and actor took herself out of the running for the coveted Rock & Roll Hall of Fame vote. You can read all about it here.
