Johnny Marr and Alicia Keys have become the duo we never knew we needed as they perform a cover of The Smiths hit song This Charming Man.

Taking to the stage at the AO Arena Manchester last night, the Empire State of Mind singer was joined by former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr to perform a soul version of one of the band’s most well-known songs.

Keys is currently on a tour of the UK after performing a set at the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Concert earlier this month and wowed fans at Manchester last night (12 June) with this cover.

Towards the end, Keys applauds Marr by announcing his name to the crowd, which erupted with applause.

Watch the performance below:

As previously mentioned, Alicia Keys was one of the many musicians to perform at the Platinum Jubilee celebrations this month and recently revealed that the Queen had personally requested each song on her set list.

She’s not the only one who has been busy this year, as Marr has released an album and embarked on a tour with Blondie.

Speaking about the album on the Chris Evans Breakfast Show with Sky in February, he said: “I had the idea that it was going to be a double. I’d never done one before. I had the title, Fever Dreams Pt 1-4, very early, and I thought, ‘What’s that about? I like it… don’t know what it is!’”

He added: “I feel like I’ve been through something making this record.”

On touring with Blondie on their Against The Odds tour, he also said: “I wrote a song on their last album, Pollinator, and it went swimmingly well. It was great. It turned out really good, Johnny said. “It was just always on the cards really, from me doing that.”
