If you watched the season four of Stranger Things, you’ll know that Master Of Puppets by Metallica plays a big part of the action.

The song features in an epic scene during the season’s finale, whereby popular metal-loving character Eddie Munsun – played by actor Joseph Quinn – belts out the song on guitar as part of the gang’s plan to defeat the pesky demon Vecna.

When the season finale of Stranger Things landed, Metallica took to Instagram to praise directors The Duffer Brothers for the way they used Master of Puppets, saying: “The way The Duffer Brothers have incorporated music into Stranger Things has always been next level, so we were beyond psyched for them to not only include “Master of Puppets” in the show, but to have such a pivotal scene built around it.

“We were all stoked to see the final result and when we did we were totally blown away... it’s so extremely well done, so much so, that some folks were able to guess the song just by seeing a few seconds of Joseph Quinn’s hands in the trailer!! How crazy cool is that?

“It’s an incredible honour to be such a big part of Eddie’s journey and to once again be keeping company with all of the other amazing artists featured in the show.”

Indeed, the scene was such a massive hit with fans of the show, and introduced a whole new generation to the legendary band, that Master of Puppets shot up the UK charts as a result, even though it was released 36 years ago.

When it came out all the way back in 1986, it didn’t have a video clip, but now, following the song’s resurgence, a lyric video has finally been made to accompany it.

The new animated clip was put together by UK design agency ILoveDust, who also worked on the artwork for Ozzy Osbourne’s upcoming studio album, Patient Number 9, and have also previously worked with Foo Fighters.

Not only did Stranger Things cause Master Of Puppets to hit the UK and US charts for the first time, but it also led to Kate Bush’s Running Up That Hill reaching number one in the UK 37 years after its release.

Yesterday, (July 26th), Ed Gamble joined the Chris Evans Breakfast Show with Sky on Virgin Radio and talked about meeting Joseph Quinn from Stranger Things. Read all about it.
