Having already revealed that they will be releasing another album later this year, Red Hot Chili Peppers have given fans a taste of what to expect by unveiling a new single, called Tippa My Tongue.
The new song is the first slice from the upcoming record, which, as the band announced last month, is set to land in October. The fact that RHCP are dropping another double-album came as something of a surprise, as they have already released one this year, Unlimited Love, in April. That album was their first in six years.
The new record is once again produced by the legendary Rick Rubin, and is called Return Of The Dream Canteen.
The band teased new song Tippa My Tongue last night on Twitter, saying: “Funky Monks are on the run,” with a GIF taken from the video, and today (19th August), they have sent the single, and accompanying psychedelic video, into the world. You can check it out here:
In a statement about the forthcoming LP, the band said that they “went in search of ourselves as the band that we have somehow always been,” by jamming and learning some old songs. This led to them working on new material.
“With time turned into an elastic waistband of oversized underwear, we had no reason to stop writing and rocking,” they said, somewhat cryptically. “It felt like a dream. When all was said and done, our moody love for each other and the magic of music had gifted us with more songs than we knew what to do with. Well we figured it out.
"Two double albums released back to back. The second of which is easily as meaningful as the first or should that be reversed. Return Of The Dream Canteen is everything we are and ever dreamed of being. It’s packed. Made with the blood of our hearts.”
With two-double albums in one year, RHCP are really spoiling us!
Return Of The Dream Canteen is out on 14th October, and is now available for pre-order.
