Avril Lavigne will be honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, it has been revealed.

The singer, who shot to fame in 2002 with her singles Complicated and Sk8er Boi, will be given the 2731st star on the Walk of Fame in the category of Recording.

For good reason too, as Lavigne has had an incredibly successful career, selling 40 million albums worldwide and winning an array of awards, including eight Grammy nominations.

Her debut album, Let It Go, also became the best-selling album of the 21st century by a Canadian artist and Under My Skin up in 2004 went platinum.

In 2007, Lavigne released The Best Damn Thing, which went to number one in seven countries, and her fourth and fifth studio albums Goodbye Lullaby (2011) and Avril Lavigne (2013), were both certified gold in the US and Canada.

More recently, the singer released Head Above Water in 2019 and returned to her pop-punk roots with Love Sux, which came out earlier this year.

Not only that, but Lavigne also currently holds a Guinness World Record as the youngest female solo artist to top the UK charts, and her hit track Girlfriend became the first music video to reach 100 million views on YouTube.

On her latest record, the singer collaborated with US rapper Machine Gun Kelly who is due to speak at the ceremony next week on 31st August.

Speaking about the announcement, producer of the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Ana Martinez, said: “This isn’t Complicated, Avril Lavigne is very deserving of this Walk of Fame star and we are thrilled to be honouring her with this great honour.

“Avril’s fans have been blowing up my phone asking when she will be getting her star. We are thrilled to say that the time is now.”

The Complicated singer’s star will be the 2731st on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6212 Hollywood Boulevard.
