His North America tour is cancelled... again.

Sir Ringo Starr has cancelled the rest of his North American tour after testing positive for COVID-19 for the second time in two weeks.

The 82-year-old Beatle has wiped concerts in California and Mexico from the diary, and has said fans were sure to be "as surprised as I was" as he revealed his latest coronavirus setback.

Ringo had previously cancelled a clutch of dates on the tour a fortnight ago.

Just three days ago, the voice of Thomas the Tank Engine said he was "on the road again" after recovering from an earlier bout of COVID-19.

"I'm sure you'll be as surprised as I was I tested positive again for COVID," he then wrote, sharing a picture of himself on Twitter.

"The rest of the tour is off. I send you peace and love, Ringo."

In an interview with USA Today last year, the drummer said he'd left the house just a handful of times during the pandemic.

"You've got to help protect yourself if you can," he said, adding he had been vaccinated and was "feeling groovy".

Get well soon Ringo! Third time lucky?
