New comedy series, Mr Bigstuff, landed on our screens last night (17th July), and episode one saw its stars deliver an unexpected dance routine.

The six-part series - which is out now on Sky Max and NOW - stars EastEnders legend Danny Dyer alongside creator and writer Ryan Sampson, who is best known for playing Tommo in Brassic.

The duo joined the Chris Evans Breakfast Show with webuyanycar to talk all about it, with Ryan saying: “I was really anxious for it, because it's one thing acting on something, but like, when it's your words coming out of Danny Dyer's face, it's a very nerve-wracking experience! But that being said, it felt like a really happy set.”

Danny, who quit Albert Square in 2022, said: “I've been very busy. I've had a great couple of years since I’ve left, thank you very much. It's been great for me. I'm trying some different stuff. It's about what I say no to now. And I want to try and do some different stuff. I want to explore myself as an actor. And I'm 47 now, and I just want to try and try things that are a bit leftfield and a little bit out there.”

The series follows estranged brothers Glen (Ryan), a perfectionist striving to live the suburban ideal, and Lee (Danny), an alpha-male with a prescription drug addiction.

Speaking about the dance routine which lit up the opening episode, the Football Factory and The Wall icon said: “I read it and I thought, ‘How on earth are we going to pull this off?’ Because the way Ryan wrote it was just this whole sort of great big paragraph about how it's very showbiz, very Vegas.’ I'm thinking ‘How are we gonna do this?’”

Revealing that they had “a week's rehearsal”, Danny said: “We took it very, very seriously. A bit of Footloose in there, maybe. You have to watch the show to understand, but it's our way of convincing someone that we're brothers.”

Catch some glimpses of the dance moves in question in the below trailer:

Talking about his character in Mr Big Stuff, the former EastEnder said: “I was blessed with a crazy wardrobe as well. My character wears Glen's wife's clothes without asking. You know, dressing gowns, sunglasses and her pink shorts. So it will make sense to you when you watch it.”

He continued: “He’s a very masculine man, but he's not very in touch with his feelings, and he's expressing himself in the way that he should. And so I think it might raise a lot of debate with men.

“Yes, it's a comedy and it's funny, but maybe it does raise a few issues.”

Writer Ryan added: “If you get someone laughing, they're open to hearing the message.”

Danny continued: “These two brothers are helping each other with the masculinity thing, with Glenn getting it wrong a lot and letting people walk all over him and not being masculine enough, and then maybe Lee being too masculine, he needs to tone it down slightly.

“If you put the two men together, you've got the perfect man, somewhere!

“It's about accepting your flaws as well. You know, you've got your flaws. Accept them and embrace them, you know, because that's what makes us who we are.”
