It must be hard work preparing for one of the most anticipated films of recent years, right?
According to Ryan Reynolds, star of the upcoming Deadpool 3, it definitely is. The actor told ET Canada at the 2023 Canadian Screen Awards on Sunday that the training regime for the new film is tough, especially when he’s alongside his co-star Hugh Jackman.
He said of his famous frenemy: “Hugh Jackman is a beast, you know? He’s clearly obsessed with his own body. So, keeping up with someone who’s that diligent is going to be challenging.”
Not long after, Hugh responded to the video on Twitter by saying: “More like petrified. Have you seen you?”
Hugh played the role of Wolverine in nine films in the X-Men franchise, but supposedly retired the character after the standalone film Logan in 2017.
However, back in September it was revealed that he would make a welcome return to the role in Deadpool 3, with the announcement made via a funny social media video from himself and Ryan.
Beyond the jokes, it is all love between the two actors. The pair are excited about the opportunity to work together at the “perfect time”, with Ryan admitting that he had been persistent in his attempts to get his co-star on board.
He said: “I was just pestering him like a gnat over the last many years… what we pitched him was enough of a divergence from the character that he’s left behind, that it gives him something completely new to play and something that he’s really excited to do.”
Ryan and Hugh aren’t the only big stars joining the Deadpool 3 cast. It has previously been confirmed that the likes of The Crown’s Emma Corrin and Succession’s Matthew Macfadyen will be part of the highly anticipated next instalment of the franchise.
Deadpool 3 is set to be released on 6th September 2024.
