Linda McGarry has said her late son George Gilbey "did more in his 40 years than people do in 90", in a heartbreaking tribute to the Gogglebox star.

Her tribute comes following the shock death of George last week.

Linda and George often appeared on the show alongside her late husband, Pete McGarry.

She has shared her memories of her son in a new interview with the Thurrock Gazette, calling him "generous" and "kind".

"I'm devastated, he was like my best friend," Linda shared.

"He had the best heart in the world. He was generous, funny and kind, with bundles of charm and buckets of personality.

"He did more in his 40 years than people do in 90 – he's even had dinner with the Prince of Dubai," she added.

Linda also revealed that George had struggled with the overnight fame, as well as the sad news that she has recently been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease.

"He came to celebrity overnight but didn't really want to be – he was just normal, but it allowed him to do charity work – any time anyone contacted him about charity work, he prioritised it."

George's former partner Gemma Conway described George as a "really devoted dad", who has sadly left behind a 7-year-old daughter, Amelie.

Gemma said: "Amelie was his absolute world – he lived for that little girl and his mum".

On Gogglebox on Friday night, the show paid tribute to George with an in memoriam photo of him alongside his beloved parents.

Fans of the show have been paying tribute to the star and sharing their condolences.

A Channel 4 spokesperson said after the news of George's death was released:

“George was part of the Gogglebox family for eight series alongside his mum Linda and step-dad Pete.

“Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Linda, and George’s family and friends at this very sad time. The family have asked for privacy.”
