To infinity and beyond! There’s a new Pixar film on its way featuring everyone’s favourite Space Ranger. However, this upcoming movie isn’t about the toy that we all know and love, but is actually the backstory of the space ranger in the Toy Story universe that inspired the plastic version of Buzz.
Lightyear tells the story of the ‘real life’ Buzz's rise through the ranks, to become captain of the Universe Protection Unit of the Space Ranger corps, who, as we know, are dedicated to fighting the evil emperor Zurg.
The animated origin story will star Hollywood actor Chris Evans as the voice of Buzz. The toy version of the Space Ranger was voiced by Tim Allen in the other four films in the franchise.
Directed by Angus MacLane, the movie is due for release in June 2022. He told EW: “It's a straightforward sci-fi action film about the Buzz Lightyear character.”
As well as giving an intriguing taste of the upcoming movie, the trailer is excellently soundtracked. As Buzz flies his ship into space, David Bowie's Starman rings out.
The clip sees the hero donning the famous green and white spacesuit, but it ends just before he finishes his much-loved catchphrase, “To infinity and beyond.”

In case you have been living on another planet for the past 26 years and aren’t aware of Buzz Lightyear, the character first appeared in 1995’s Toy Story, when a plastic Buzz mistakenly thought himself to be a real-life space ranger.
Over four critically-lauded family films, he and his best mate Woody (voiced by Tom Hanks) and their misfit gang of toys, got themselves into, and out of, numerous scrapes.
In 2019, Disney said that its Buzz figure was its best-selling toy of all time.
