Marvel fans can rejoice that work on the third Guardians of the Galaxy film is under way.

Whilst the movie isn’t due for release until 2023, its director and some cast members have shared photos, showing them back at work.

In a tweet yesterday (8th November), director James Gunn said: “It’s been a strange & long & at times challenging journey to get here, but the obstacles along the way have only made this moment more blissful. Back on set with my Guardians family for the first day of shooting.”

His tweet included a photo of some of the stars of the franchise, including Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldaña, Karen Gillan, Dave Bautista, and Pom Klementieff. Also in the picture is Will Poulter, who has been added to the cast as comic book character Adam Warlock.

Will Poulter’s character was teased in a post-credit scene of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, when Ayesha unveils to her chambermaid the perfect Sovereign she has created to help destroy the Guardians.

Meanwhile, Karen Gillan also posted the picture of the cast on Instagram, saying: “Very glad to have the Guardians family back together with our fearless leader back where he belongs! This movie is gonna blow your socks off so GET. READY. PEOPLE.”

Whilst not pictured, Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel are also set to reprise their roles.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was first announced all the way back in April 2017, even before the second volume had hit the screens. Gunn was later publicly fired in July after some controversial and offensive tweets between 2008 and 2012 were revealed. The director, who was rehired in March 2019, said (via LADbible): “Even these many years later, I take full responsibility for the way I conducted myself then. All I can do now [is offer] my sincere and heartfelt regret.

“To everyone inside my industry and beyond, I again offer my deepest apologies.”

The new film is set to land on 5th May 2023, but if you can’t wait that long for a dose of Guardians, then Marvel Studios have announced that Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special will stream in late 2022 on Disney+. The special will also be written and directed by James Gunn.
