Du-buy or not Du-buy? That is the question. The shocking BBC Two series has left people baffled after watching the decadent, money-burning documentary.

With a sneak peak into the United Arab Emirates’ gold industry, viewers were left gob-smacked after one jeweller produced a solid gold scarf costing £100,000.

Shopkeeper Abu told cameras: "It’s not much, but it’s something different in gold."

Complete with a pair of sunglasses on the model, would they be included in the sale of the scarf?

Abu replied: "No."

Viewers were less than impressed with the outrageously expensive item. One Twitter user wrote: "The price of everything and the value of absolutely nothing."

Another agreed: "That gold looks so tacky."

A third penned: "Dogs get better treatment than some people #insidedubai I’m obsessed with the obscene levels of wealth displayed and would like to think that many still have some sort of moral compass."

Scarf-gate's extravagance comes after one man admitted last week to spending $9million (£6.6million) on the world’s most expensive personalised number plate and one woman showed off her wardrobe worth £4million.

Inside Dubai: Playground of the Rich continues on Monday at 9pm on BBC One and on BBC iPlayer.
