Creator and writer of Peaky Blinders, Steven Knight, has teased what is in store for one of the show’s most beloved characters.

We didn’t think we would see Alfie Solomons (Tom Hardy) again after he was shot in the face by Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy) in season four. But, in true Solomons style, the Jewish mobster made an unexpected comeback in the finale of season five after surviving the wound.

Not only that, but he promised to assist Shelby in his plot to assassinate the fascist politician Sir Oswald Mosley (Sam Claflin), for a good price, of course.

Alfie is based on a real-life Jewish gangster called Alfred Solomon and was first introduced to the Shelby brothers in season two. The ganster immediately became a fan favourite for his funny remarks and unhinged demeanor.

It is no surprise then, that Steven Knight has a lot more planned for the gangster in the upcoming season, premiering this weekend.

Speaking to RadioTimes about what to expect from Solomons, Steven Knight simply said, “Chaos”.

He added: “I think it’s difficult to explain without giving stuff away, but we might find Alfie in a position not quite as strong as he normally is. And the question is, can he build himself back up?”

Knight also revealed he brought the character back mainly because Hardy loved playing him so much.

He explained: “It seemed ripe for Alfie not to be around, but Tom loves the character. A lot. And so basically, we can’t kill him.”

We would be lying if we said we didn’t love Alfie too (even if he is slightly unhinged).

Peaky Blinders season 6 begins on Sunday 27th February at 9pm on BBC One.
