Cobra Kai fans who were already excited about the return of the hit series are now even more so, as the first full trailer has dropped for season five, and it looks like the drama is set to be ramped up further.
The trailer landed last night (Tuesday 16th August), showing the extent to which bad guy Terry Silver (played Thomas Ian Griffith) has a stranglehold on the Valley.
The villain, who was the main antagonist in Karate Kid: Part III and returned to the franchise in season four, says: “Cobra Kai now has more students than ever before. That means we’ll need more senseis.” And it seems that his plan extends well beyond the Valley too.
To make matters worse, both Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence’s (William Zabka) Miyagi-Do and Eagle Fang dojos have closed after Cobra Kai won The All Valley Under 18 Karate Tournament.
Johnny is now a car-share driver, and a terrible one at that, and Daniel says: “With Johnny gone, it’s on me to fix this.”
The trailer suggests however, that, in the end, Daniel, Johnny and Chozen Toguchi (Yuji Okumoto) from Karate Kid: Part II will eventually join forces to take on Silver.
Elsewhere in the clip, we see Miguel Diaz (Xolo Maridueña) and Robby Keene (Tanner Buchanan) coming to blows, while John Kreese (Martin Kove) is getting into bother behind bars after being framed by Silver.
Check out the trailer, which (as you would expect) features plenty of karate, here:
Whilst teasing plenty to look forward to in the new season of the massively popular Netflix show, the trailer doesn’t answer the question as to what role Mike Barnes (Sean Kanan) will play.
It has been confirmed that Barnes, who was also a baddie in Karate Kid: Part III, will feature in season five of Cobra Kai, but he isn’t anywhere to be seen in the clips released yesterday.
The good news is that we don’t have to wait too long to see what shape his appearance takes, as the new season will stream on Netflix from Friday 9th September.
