Netflix have given fans a first glimpse of the reimagining of the Addams Family in new spin-off - Wednesday.

The coming-of-age comedy, directed by none other than Tim Burton, stars Jenna Ortega as the titular character, with Catherine Zeta-Jones playing Morticia Addams.

Luis Guzmán stars as Wednesday’s mustachioed father Gomez, while Isaac Ordonez is hapless Pugsly.

Netflix have shared the first look at the Addams’ as a whole, and the cast completely transformed into the gothic family, with Jones’ Morticia exuding glamour in a signature dramatic black gown and Ortega sporting Wednesday signature plaits.

The official synopsis from the streaming giant reads: “The series is a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy.

“Wednesday's attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore.”

The Addams Family first arrived on the scene back in 1938 by cartoonist Charles Addams, who designed the macabre family for cartoon panels in The New Yorker.

They then appeared on the big screen in 1991’s The Addams Family, with Anjelica Huston as Morticia, Raul Julia as Gomez and Christina Ricci as Wednesday.

They returned in the 1993 sequel Addams Family Values, which inspired another animated series within the same universe.

In June, Netflix released the first teaser trailer for Wednesday, and while keeping vague about the key details, the clip showed off Ortega’s take on the frosty character.

In the teaser, we see Wednesday walk towards the camera, looking suitably serious, and straighten her collar, before the good old disembodied hand, Thing, climbs onto her shoulder, and the duo then do the iconic finger click.

Ricci will also return to the franchise as a regular cast member, but her role is being kept tightly underwraps.

Also in the show will be other familiar names, such as Thora Birch and Riki Lindhome, along with Jamie McShane, Percy Hynes White, Gwendoline Christie, Hunter Doohan, Joy Sunday, Emma Myers, Georgie Farmer, Naomi Ogawa and Moosa Mostafa.

Wednesday is expected to drop on Netflix in the autumn, although an exact date has yet to be announced.
