Dame Mary Berry to make guest appearance in Celebrity MasterChef semi-finals

Dame Mary Berry will be making a guest appearance on the Celebrity MasterChef semi-finals next week.

The former Great British Bake Off judge will feature during next week’s episode on Thursday, 8th September and contestants will be tasked with making one of her favourite signature recipes, which will force them to “master unfamiliar ingredients and techniques.”

Speaking about her appearance in the show, Dame Mary said: “I can’t wait to see these talented MasterChef semi-finalists bring my dishes to life and hopefully they are recipes they would enjoy making at home too.”

She added: “They need to remember though that I’ve got eyes in the back of my head. They may think I’m not watching, but I will be.”

As previously mentioned, the baking icon has had a lot of experience critiquing aspiring cooks when she was a judge on the Great British Bake Off with Paul Hollywood between 2010 and 2016.

She left the show when it moved from the BBC to Channel 4 along with judges Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins.

Dame Mary will appear alongside Gregg Wallace and John Torode and will be judging semi-finalists actor Adam Pearson, drag queen Kitty-Scott Claws, Strictly Come Dancing professional Katya Jones, soap actor Ryan Thomas and presenter Lisa Snowdon.

Judge Gregg Wallace joined The Chris Evans Breakfast Show with Sky earlier this month to talk about the cooking show and why Celebrity MasterChef is his favourite.

He said: “I think of the three [shows], pro, amateur and celeb, celeb is the most fun. I think because the contestants are celebs, they are the least nervous. They are used to cameras, and quite frankly, at least a third of them can't cook.

“I think when we first started, we were slightly worried because we thought it might dilute a serious cookery competition. But then we quickly realised just how funny it really is.”

Celebrity MasterChef the semi-final will air on BBC at 8pm on 8th September.
