Great news from Europe where an old school way of getting from A to B is being gloriously resurrected.

Say bonjour and or guten morgen to a new and affordable private sleeper train that from this week, runs from Brussels to Berlin and will loop Amsterdam in too.

Started by Elmer Van Buuren, a Dutch former train guard who’s tapping into the public’s desire for low cost and more sustainable travel. Avoiding the airport and doing these journeys on a sleeper is also a romantic revival of a much nicer way to travel.

European Sleeper used crowdfunding to get going and now have a train with three tiers of travel. The sleeping cars for a single business traveller are very comfortable and run at €128 which includes breakfast. Small groups and families can book couchettes (from €89 per person, including breakfast) that seat either 4 or 6 people.

In the near future, the company will add dining cars so that the people in the super affordable reclining seats of third class have refreshment options as well. No expensive taxi to and from the airport which represents even better value and your knowing that you’re going to be in the heart of your destination city nice and early without having to get up in the middle of the night!
