An amazing bit of luck from New York City as a junk shop enthusiast has a real life Antiques Roadshow wow moment when she finds four plates by Pablo Picasso!
Nancy Cavaliere moved to the Big Apple from Italy when she was just 8 years old and her hobby is to find conversation pieces in junk shops. She loves colourful things with a story and was drawn to three plates with faces drawn on them in a Picasso style. They were $1.99 each and when she turned them over and saw Picasso’s name on the back she had to stifle her excitement. Keeping a straight face, she paid the $7.96, went home and did some research which ended up with her crying tears of joy as she realised these things were genuine Picasso plates which last time they were auctioned, went for $4,000 dollars each. What lucky Nancy was not prepared for was inflation and an upturn in interest in Picasso’s porcelain. There was a bidding war on them and each one went for more than $10,000!
Less than $8 to more than $40,000 - bravo, actually brava Nancy!

Good news from around the world, as the World Bank issues the past years crime statistics and even though mainstream news would have you believe that all young people want to stab you and that my beautiful and wonderful Muslim neighbours want to blow you up, but in the world of reality our world is actually, as a whole, getting much safer!
The UK’s Office for National Statistics (ONS) estimates that total crime in the UK was down 12 per cent last year compared with the year leading up to the pandemic. Theft fell by a fifth, while domestic burglary and criminal damage were down almost a quarter.
Crime incidents recorded by the police also revealed a significant drop in robberies (20 per cent), and knife crime (9 per cent). The number of murders also fell by 11 per cent in England and Wales. This is reflected right around the world, almost everywhere, except of course the United States, who still have their insane gun laws. The helicopter view is great though: Of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development 38 members, only 5 countries had murder rates under 1 in 100,000 in the nineties, now 20 of those 38 now fall into that reassuring envelope.
