The summer holidays are finally here, and it’s blockbuster season at the cinema too, meaning plenty of big releases to enjoy!

Off the back of an incredible cinematic run for both Barbie and Oppenheimer, August is looking to compete with some of the year’s biggest releases, including Gran Turismo and Disney’s Haunted Mansion.

Check out the movies to watch this August:

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem (out now)

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are back!

In the new TMNT adventure, Mutant Mayhem, everyone’s favourite heroes in a half-shell return, after years of being sheltered from the human world, and they are intent on winning the hearts of New Yorkers and becoming accepted as normal teenagers through their heroic acts.

However, when their pal April O’Neil helps them take on a mysterious crime syndicate, they end up over their heads.

Meg 2: The Trench  (4th August)

Hollywood hardman Jason Statham is back to battle the sea’s most notorious creator in Meg 2: The Trench.

The sequel to 2018’s runaway hit also stars Wu Jing, Page Kennedy, Sergio Peris-Mencheta as a group of scientists doing their best to outsmart merciless predators, including a gigantic prehistoric shark.

Meg 2 is based on the 1999 novel, The Trench, by Steve Alten and has potentially the best catchphrase in movie history - New Meg. Old Chum.

Gran Turismo (11th August)

The video game adaptation of Gran Turismo is actually based on the very true story of one insanely talented gamer.

Starring the likes of David Harbour and Orlando Bloom, Gran Turismo follows a seriously dedicated Gran Turismo player, Jann Mardenborough, whose gaming abilities won him a series of Nissan competitions to become a professional racing driver.

There’s also a bit of Spice involved, as Geri Horner is also on board as Jann’s mother Lesley.

Haunted Mansion (11th August)

Things are getting pretty spooky in Disney’s next adventure, Haunted Mansion.

Inspired by the classic theme park attraction, the film stars The Mandalorian’s Rosario Dawson as a mother who moves into a new home with her son (Chase Dillon). As the title of the film suggests, it is haunted. Very haunted, in fact.

Everything Everywhere All at Once legend Jamie Lee Curtis is signed up to play Madame Leota, and musician and House of Gucci actor, Jared Leto, also stars.

The synopsis explains that Dawson’s character “enlists a motley crew of so-called spiritual experts to help rid their home of supernatural squatters.”

Strays (18th August)

Will Ferrell and Jamie Foxx play some fiery furry friends in Strays.

The R-rated comedy sees gullible Border Terrier Reggie (Ferrell) abandoned on the streets by his hateful owner Doug (Will Forte). When he’s turfed out, Reggie teams up with other strays, including Bug (Foxx), Maggie (Isla Fisher) and therapy dog Hunter (Randall Park) to help take revenge.

(Might sound cute, but not one for the kids!)
