She was a hugely popular addition to the third season of Only Murders in the Building, and now Meryl Streep’s future in the comedy-mystery series has reportedly been decided.

In season three, the Hollywood star played actress Loretta Durkin, who became romantically involved with Oliver, played by Martin Short. She was a major suspect as Charles (Steve Martin), Mabel (Selena Gomez) and Oliver tried to figure out who killed Ben Glenroy, played by Paul Rudd.

Now, Deadline reports that the Mamma Mia star will indeed be back to reprise her role for season four. It has not been revealed what will happen with her character, but we do know that Charles, Mabel and Oliver head to Los Angeles, before returning to the familiar surroundings of The Arconia.

The trio will, of course, try to solve the mystery that occurred at the end of season three, when (spoiler alert) Sazz, played by Jane Lynch, was killed while Oliver threw an opening night party. While Charles, Mabel and Oliver celebrated having identified Ben Glenroy's killer as Death Razzle Dazzle producer Cliff (Wesley Taylor), Sazz was shot through the window of Charles’ apartment. Being Charles’ stunt double, it seems very likely that Steve Martin’s character was actually the target.

As Sazz laid on the floor, she attempted to write something on Charles’ floor with blood from her chest. And on that cliffhanger, the season came to an end.

The fourth season of the series was announced on X, formerly Twitter, in October 2023. The show’s official account wrote: “Only Murders in the Building is coming back for Season 4! Let the investigating begin... 🕵️‍♂️🕵️‍♂️🕵️‍♀️ #OMITB”.

As yet, a release date for season four has not been announced.
