Meeting Jeff Goldblum was one of the highlights of Tom Allen’s time hosting the BAFTA TV Awards red carpet this year.

Speaking with fellow Virgin Radio UK weekend presenter Angela Scanlon this Sunday (19th May), Tom reminisced about the most enjoyable moments of his hosting gig last week, including when he got a photograph taken with the Jurassic Park star.

“He’s very suave, very debonair,” Tom gushed to Angela in the studio. “He is so charming! He’s everything you want him to be.”

Tom then revealed how Goldblum seemed to have a curious habit of singing while preparing for his picture. “We had a photo taken, and while we were having the photo taken, he started singing… I don’t know if it made him more relaxed,” Tom suggested.

Angela then revealed how humming can be a very useful technique for relaxing. “Interestingly - I don’t know if this is 100% related - but I did hear during the week that humming is really really good for you, because it’s physically impossible to be thinking and fixated on thoughts while also humming…

“So maybe he was just trying to empty his brain, lose any inhibitions and self-consciousness,” she suggested.

According to Tom, Jeff’s musical interlude to their photo taking was “a bit of scatting, a bit of Jazz”, which led to the radio hosting pair trying their hand at an improvised musical moment.

Joking about the rest of his TV BAFTA red carpet hosting experience, Tom revealed how covering the event can be quite an intense experience due to the sheer amount of stars in attendance. “There’s just this endless march of celebrities, it’s like a zombie apocalypse in the way they just won’t relent! But they were nice,” he said.

The experienced host - who was looking after the red carpet alongside the “wonderful” and “really fun” Michelle Visage - did admit to Angela there were a few times when he was caught by talent unawares. “Did you recognise them all?” Angela asked, and Tom candidly replied: “Most, but there were a few times where I was like ‘I don’t know’ and I had to ask the producer!”
