Netflix reveal all-star Agatha Christie series cast as David Suchet cast in Channel 4 doc

Netflix have announced an all-star cast for their new Agatha Christie series The Seven Dials Mystery.

Martin Freeman, Helena Bonham-Carter and BAFTA Rising Star award-winner Mia McKenna-Bruce will be joining the production, Variety reports

Netflix’s The Seven Dials Mystery will tell a “witty, epic and fast-paced” story in which a 1920s lavish house party goes horribly wrong. The series is being written by former Broadchurch and Doctor Who showrunner Chris Chibnall.

Today’s news reveals McKenna-Bruce will take the role of the story’s lead sleuth, Lady Eileen ‘Bundle’ Brent, meanwhile Bonham-Carter and Freeman will be playing the characters Lady Caterham and Superintendent Battle respectively.

Celebrating her casting, McKenna-Bruce said in a statement: “Chris Chibnall’s scripts are brilliant, and I am thrilled to be part of this new interpretation of the iconic Agatha Christie’s storytelling.”

Today’s Netflix Agatha Christie news comes on the same day Deadline have revealed that beloved Poirot star David Suchet will be returning to the Christie-verse in order to front a documentary series on the author’s life for Channel 4.

The five-part series, Travels with Agatha with Sir David Suchet, will see the actor trace the steps of the famous author on an international expedition which saw her visit former British Empire territories Canada, Hawai’i, South Africa, New Zealand and Australia as part of a trade mission.

With each episode focusing on Christie’s time in each of those nations, the series “invites the viewer to travel with David on a fascinating journey to discover more about one of the world’s literary enigmas.”

Suchet celebrated the series in a statement, saying: “Having spent a quarter of a century personifying Agatha Christie’s iconic character of Hercule Poirot, I now feel so honoured to embark upon a journey around the world, as myself — in the footsteps of possibly the greatest crime writer of all times.

“I feel that she will be sitting on my shoulders at every moment urging me on to share her passion for knowledge, travel, archeology, and of course, mystery.”

The Seven Dials Mystery will be released on Netflix in the future. 

Travels with Agatha with Sir David Suchet is due to air on Channel 4 later this year.
