Harrison Ford may need surgery after getting injured on the Indiana Jones set

The 78-year-old actor has sustained a shoulder injury while in rehearsals for a fight scene, disrupting the production of the upcoming fifth Indiana Jones movie.

A source told The Sun that the Hollywood icon “was filming an action scene on a train,” at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire when he felt his shoulder go. “He aggravated an old injury but it's bad enough for him to require surgery to put it right,” the source said.

The movie’s director, James Mangold, will work around not having Ford in front of the camera for a while, but there is the chance that, “there could be a four to five-week break”.

Disney have released a statement, saying, “Production will continue while the appropriate course of treatment is evaluated, and the filming schedule will be reconfigured as needed in the coming weeks.” Whether that means a delay to the release of the movie, which is set to land in July 2022, remains to be seen.

This unfortunate injury is not the first time that the actor has been hurt on set. He also injured himself during filming of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, back in 2015. Then, his leg was broken by a hydraulic door on the set of the Millennium Falcon.

The new Indiana Jones movie will be the series’ final chapter. It will also star Fleabag's Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Hannibal actor Mads Mikkelsen. 

As well as at Pinewood Studios, filming for the movie has been taking place in Yorkshire, Bamburgh and in Scotland. Not much is known about the plot or title of the film yet.
