What a night for the Lionesses in Sheffield, as they swept Sweden aside to reach Sunday’s sold-out Euro 2022 final at Wembley! And, unsurprisingly, the tributes to the inspirational football team have been pouring in following their 4-0 win, including some from former England men’s captain, David Beckham.

The Lionesses thrilled the nation with their exhilarating win at Bramall Lane last night (26th July), with goals from Beth Mead, Lucy Bronze, Fran Kirby, and a sensational backheel nutmeg from Alessia Russo, to secure their place in the final, where they will play either France or Germany.

After the game, former England men’s skipper Beckham shared congratulatory messages on his Instagram stories. “What a night, congratulations to the girls,” he wrote, before also sharing a photo of Rachel Daly dancing in a St George’s cross England cowboy hat on the pitch, saying it was his, “favourite picture on a special night.”

And before the big semi-final kicked off, the free-kick maestro shared a video message with the Lionesses. In it, he said: “Hey, Lionesses, it’s David here. I just wanted to send you a message, firstly to say congratulations on an incredible tournament so far, it’s been so uplifting, it’s been so exciting, and it’s been so inspiring.

“And for me personally, you know I have a daughter, so for her to be inspired by you girls and your performances has been incredible.”

He added: “But it’s not just the girls that are getting inspired, the boys are getting inspired as well by this.

“It really has uplifted the whole country.”

Speaking about the semi-final against Sweden, the former Manchester United star continued: “We’re all excited to see it and I know there’s one person that is really excited to see it and that is my daughter, Harper.

“So thank you for inspiring her.”

Social media has been awash with other celebs congratulating the Lionesses following their epic win last night.

England men’s captain Harry Kane took to Twitter to say: “Yesss @Lionesses! Bring on the final.”

Prince William wrote: “Congratulations @Lionesses on making it to the #WEURO2022 final on Sunday. The entire country is so proud of everything you’re achieving. We believe in you and will be with you all the way!

Labour leader Keir Starmer, who was at the game, shared on Twitter: “So proud of the @Lionesses. The whole nation will be roaring them on this Sunday.”

Former England player Fara Williams said: “WOW.. woke up still buzzing from last night. What an unbelievable night. Our @lionesses absolutely smashed it so proud to be sat in the stadium amongst many of fans to witness it. See you all at Wembley 😁”

What a night! Good luck to the Lionesses on Sunday from everyone at Virgin Radio!
