Viewers have been given a glimpse of the much-anticipated television adaptation of popular video game, The Last of Us.

The Last of Us is an action-adventure game in which a smuggler is tasked with escorting a teenage girl across a post-apocalyptic United States, where zombie-like predators roam.

The upcoming TV series will star Pedro Pascal, who you will know from Narcos, Game of Thrones and The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. He will appear as protagonist Joel alongside teenage actor Bella Ramsey, who is known as Lyanna Mormont in Game of Thrones, and Mildred Hubble in the 2017 CBBC’s The Worst Witch. Ramsey will play Ellie.

Nick Offerman - who played iconically grumpy meat enthusiast with a heart of gold, Ron Swanson in sitcom Parks and Recreation - will also feature in the series, playing a character called Bill.

HBO gave fans a peek at what to expect from the new series ahead of the premiere of the hotly-anticipated Game of Thrones spin-off House of the Dragon. The footage of The Last of Us made up part of a montage of forthcoming shows that the network was showcasing.

HBO revealed a short teaser for the series as part of a wider video showcasing their forthcoming programming.

The short teaser shows Joel and Ellie walking through the snow, before cutting to a scene in which Ellie says: "Everybody I have cared for, has either died or left me." Joel responds by saying: "You have no idea what loss is.”

To say I'm excited is an understatement.”

Another added: “Pedro’s voice is already selling me on him as Joel.”

Someone else said: “Nick Offerman as Bill is the most perfect casting I’ve seen in ages! So pumped for this series!”

At this stage, there is no release date for The Last of Us TV, but it is expected to air early next year.
