Eight months ago a little Irish town came up with a voluntary plan to alleviate the anxiety that parents had about their little children’s mental health in relation to the smartphone.
The worry that your primary school child is just one click away from content that’s really too mature for their eyes and brains is very real and the peer or child pressure that parents feel is equally so as they’re faced with the “well my best friend has one why can’t I?” conversation.
So parents and teachers in Greystone, Co. Wicklow banded together and introduced a voluntary ban on smartphones for primary school kids. It’s been hugely successful with the vast majority of parents on board and in just eight months it’s made such a difference to kids and parents alike that the Irish government have stepped in to usher in a similar ban across the country.
Even the parents not involved, sign up to phoneless classrooms and all the other kids are told they’ll all get smartphones when they’re 12 and start secondary school and they can look forward to that.

The most incredible archeological find now in Italy as archaeologists unearth the greatest haul of bronze statues ever found in Italy.
Say bon giorno to the dig team in the gorgeous Tuscan hills just outside Sienna, who’ve uncovered 24 bronze statues, in near perfect condition, from the mud around an area famous for thermal hot springs, along with a haul of over 5,000 Roman and pre-roman coins in bronze, silver, and even gold. Because of the absence of oxygen the statues haven’t even turned green or degraded in any way!
The inscriptions are clearly visible and point to many and various deities but also, fascinatingly to the ruling families in Roman and Etruscan days. The leader of the dig spared no hyperbole in describing a discovery that he says will rewrite history. In practical terms the find is so huge that they’re going to build a brand new museum especially to put it all in!
