The classic 'how was your day' silence. It's not nice for the parent or child. Here's how to encourage them to open up without bombarding them with questions.

Dr Siggie Cohen, a family psychologist otherwise known as @parenting.with.dr.siggie on social media, explains that you have to be more specific.

Sharing questions such as ‘during snack time, who did you sit next to?’ or ‘did your teacher say something funny today?’ will assist you in getting a response.

She says: 'Help your child breakdown their big experience in a more detailed and balanced way.’

Her TikTok videos have been watched over 2.8 million times and have received a lot of praise from struggling parents.

One person replied: ‘Thank you for this info. I’m guilty of asking the same question. I’m now a little bit more educated.’

Another added: ‘This is my everyday story after picking my son up from school and it upsets me. Thank you for the help.’

A third parent advised the question: ‘What was your favourite part of your day?’

Good luck.
