Who'd have thought there's a right way and a wrong way to look after chocolate? Experts have explained what you should being doing with your sweet treats to get the most out of it.

To mark the upcoming World Chocolate Day on July 7, Deliveroo has conducted a study of 2,000 Brits and the results are in.

Eighty per cent of us keep our chocolate in the fridge, while milk chocolate is more popular than white and dark. More men than women store their chocolate in the fridge, with 50 per cent wanting to stop it from melting, whilst 17.8 per cent said keeping it cold makes it taste better, and 18 per cent just prefer their chocolate with a cool bite.

According to experts, it should always be stored in a cool, dry, dark place like a cupboard at temperatures less than 21°C.

Deliveroo's Aisha Jefferson said: “Ahead of World Chocolate Day, we launched a poll on our social media channels asking over 100,000 of our followers whether chocolate should be stored in the fridge or out of the fridge.

"The fridge came out on top with our followers but it sparked a passionate debate that we just had to settle once and for all. Rightly or wrongly, our research reveals that we are officially a nation of refrigerated chocolate eaters.

"Perhaps this will see chocolate making its way into the fridge section of all retailers after years of being placed in ambient aisles."
