It has been a long wait for fans of the Netflix show Russian Doll, but season two is now on the horizon, with a brand new trailer giving us a glimpse at what is in store for Nadia.
Set around four years after Nadia (Natasha Lyonne) and Alan (Charlie Barnett) escaped the time loop together, it seems we can expect more of the dry humour, sci-fi themes and existential thoughts that we grew to love in the first season.
In the second series, set in 1982, the duo discovers a time portal in New York City that will force them to confront something worse than they could have imagined- their pasts.
In the trailer, we see a glimpse of Nadia stuck in a time loop on a subway train, and she later raises a drink to declare: "When the universe f**ks with you, let it."
As the pair fall deeper and deeper into this loop, it becomes more apparent they need to search for a way out.
Lyonne earned a string of Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for her performance as Nadia in the first series of Russian Doll, so it is no surprise she will be reprising her role.
Also returning to the second season will be Chloë Sevigny, who plays Nadia's troubled mother Lenora, and Elizabeth Ashley as her beloved friend Ruth Brenner.
Schitt’s Creek star Annie Murphy has also joined the cast for season 2, but Netflix has been very tight-lipped about what kind of role she will be picking up. Lyonne did let it slip that Annie would be “the heart of the show” however, so we can’t wait to see what is in store.
Production on the second season of the show began back in 2020 but faced huge delays due to the coronavirus pandemic, and it only resumed filming last year.
Thankfully, we won’t have to wait much longer for the new series as it premieres on Netflix on 20 April.
Russian Doll season one is now available to watch on Netflix.
